Asbestos related conditions include:
· Pleural Plaques: Raised areas of tissue of the lining of the lung. They are often referred to as "scarring" of the lung tissue.
· Diffuse Pleural Thickening: Thickening of the lining of the lungs. Usually seen on both sides, it may progress to severe breathlessness.
· Asbestosis: Fibrosis or scarring of the lung tissue. The development of this disease is a slow process resulting in increasing disability.
· Lung Cancer: Malignant tumour of the lung. Smokers who were also exposed to asbestos have an even greater risk of lung cancer
· Mesothelioma: A rare form of cancer that affects the covering of the lung (pleura) or abdomen (peritoneum).
